The Lion Sleeps Tonight
Maybe, if you read the last story of mine, undeniably before this one, you’ll remember the Caméo of the story I made. Last time, he was full of energy. I meant, of course, he is energetic and dynamically moving from one place to another because he is responsible for so many things. But not today.
It has been almost 3 months since I paired with him and became a roommate, whereas there is another room with 2 people too at opposite; so, 4 in total. Préalablement, I ask for his permission before writing this. He giggles héhéhé
Whenever we feel so tired, he always came up with his celetukan — idk what does it call in English? I’ll check — while we eat or have a small talk together. Some friends also came by. We joked and testimonies the “How’s today going.” So, celetuk — with a -an suffix or nyeletuk as the conjugated verb with ny- as the affix — is more likely when someone says something spontaneously and innocently. Somehow, I found it annoying but funny at the same time 😂 I can’t even remember one as I really enjoyed everything and just got laughed 😅
I found him as a really nice guy with a unique personality. Also, he is very generous; bought many snacks, and shared them with us. He never complains unless all related to our dorm's cleanliness. I could say that I and him can’t stay still when we see messy things. However, he never told his concerns to the other 2 people next door, but always ask me for help. Obviously, I couldn't reject it as we have the same concerns.
A precaution: it doesn’t mean that I never initiate to clean up the dorm 🥲 Somehow, I did it myself and not telling anyone. I just don’t like it and try to get validation; when someone saw me polish and threw the trash bags, I don’t feel like “Yash, s/he knows that I am cleaning this mess.” Nope. Never. You do something for your own meditation. You do it because you’re willing to; not for other reasons.
But, now, he lays down on his bed; saying only a few words with low decibels; his tissues everywhere; and fully covered by his blanket. Sometimes, I saw, he feels comfortable when he likewise keeps his feet out of his covers hahaha that’s really common. I also love doing so.
Earlier this morning, he said, “Take my coconut drink, mate. I can’t finish it” during suhoor. I feel very bad seeing him so. He never looks so terrible like this. I responded, “Just take your time resting as much as it's needed. Are you fasting?” I don’t know how to respond logically. I thought he wouldn’t fast if he falls sick. And, his response shocked me “He’em” which means “yes.” He is really a tough guy. I admitted it.
Our mate from another room also came and said to me that he vomited last night. He continued “How are you, Mas? Are you fasting?” Mas is broadly speaking in Java means older brother — Javanese honorifics. It responded as, “Insya Allah, I am fasting.”
He added “Why did you guys close the door? Don’t you feel warm or hot?” with his hands moving while uttering. I answered “Because he is sick, so I close the door. Then, the air-conditioned only cools your side.”
Also, while I authoring this, his partner (his senior too) at work came to see his latest condition. “How is he?” to me straight from the front door. “He’s sleeping” murmured to her too in distance. She came inside our room & said, “How are you?” My roommate responds with low voices I can barely hear. She continued “You better take the rest for today. Let me handle today’s agenda.” Cultivate culture!
They are both really inspiring. I love the spirit and how they take care of each other. I feel emotional so easily and not joining their conversation until she said “Bye, I am going to the office.” Thanks for making his day. Let’s hope for his recovery. “Get well soon, mate,” I said. We’ll take care of one another.
